  • 25 St Mary Le Bow Church

    Turn left into Bow Lane and continue to St Mary Le Bow Church. Turn left before the church and into the yard outside the church.

    You are now two thirds through your walk.

    Yes this is that church. Folklore says that a true Londoner had to be born within the sound of Bow Bells, the Church’s main bells. Between the 14th and the early 16th centuries the streets of the City of London were not safe.  Why were Bow Bells rung at 9pm every night.

  • 26 Bow Lane

    Walk all the way around the church then retrace your footsteps back down Bow Lane to Watling Street and cross straight over.

    Note Ye Olde Watling pub on your left and be very, very alert so you can find the next answer.

  • 27 Upper Thames Street

    Continue straight down Bow Lane.  At the end of Bow Lane turn right at Nero Express.  Using the pedestrian lights on your right cross straight over both Cannon Street and Queen Victoria Street.  Once across turn left past an entrance to Mansion House Underground Station.  Cross Garlick Hill.  Walk along this pavement with Itsu on your right.  This road becomes Cannon Street.

    Just before Pret-a-Manger turn right into a pedestrianised area, Queen Street.  Walk straight down Queen Street on the left-hand pavement.  Cross straight over Upper Thames Street at the pedestrian lights, respecting the cycle lane with cycles coming from both directions.

  • 28 Walbrook stream

    Walk towards Southwark Bridge and look for a set of steps on the left of Southwark Bridge sign-posted Riverside Walk.  Go down them.

    Turn left at the bottom of the steps into Three Cranes Walk so you are walking east towards London Bridge with the river on your right.  Stop just before the industrial area.

    If the tide is out you will see the outlet for the Walbrook stream below the wall on your right.

    Carry straight on. Stop at The Banker pub and look for a set of steps leading down to the river on your right.

  • 30 Hanseatic Walk

    Turn around to walk past The Banker, then immediately right following the Thames Path signs. You’ll be going under a bridge and offices. Listen for the replayed noises of the dockyards.

    Turn right at the end of the tunnel and then left to get back to the Thames Path. You are now in Hanseatic Walk.

    Look for the steps next to the bridge which go up to a plaque commemorating the British-German Association.

  • 31 Fishmongers’ Hall

    Carry along the Thames Path, with the river on your right.  You are now on the opposite bank to The Old Thameside Inn and The Golden Hinde.

    Just before London Bridge the building on your left is Fishmongers’ Hall, another Livery Hall.
