Key information
Description
Market to Market Self-Guided Walk London
Take a colossal leap back in time, it’s AD45, the Romans have established a successful port and trading centre in Londinium and led the English to become global traders.
The French revolution leaders cited the English as a ‘nation of shopkeepers’. Today’s journey will confirm, unmistakeably, that London’s ability to trade globally made England a very, very wealthy nation. Locally the English set up markets to trade every commodity known to man. Spitalfields and Borough feeding Londoners fresh fruit and vegetables, Lloyds of London negotiating insurance for pirate ships on the high seas, Leadenhall with its Roman origins and let’s not forget the shouts and bartering on Petticoat Lane, home of the Pearly Kings and Queens.
For the next 2 hours you will be in the City of London also known as the Square Mile, which is a formidable hub for trading financial products with every nation on earth.
Engage with legendary tourist attractions; climb the 311 steps of Monument to behold the scale of the 1666 Great Fire of London, or visit England’s highest public garden 34 floors up in the Sky Garden. The route is 2 miles long and you will be finding the answers to hidden clues as you progress. Start at Liverpool Street Station and end at London Bridge Station.
