Visiting Victoria Tower Gardens

The London Walker is visiting Victoria Tower Gardens; now that’s a mouthful but where is it?

You see it on BBC news most days. Still don’t know its location? The memorial to Mrs Pankhurst lives there as does Rodin’s sculpture Burghers of Calais. It’s obviously under the Victoria Tower; but where’s the Victoria Tower?

You’ve got it, it’s right above Black Rod’s garden. Still not there? There’s another very famous tower 100 yards away; the Elizabeth Tower and it houses a famous clock. Yes, it’s Big Ben. The Elizabeth Tower is at the Commons end of the parliament building and the Victoria Tower is above the Lords.

Every time I tread through this park there is always a politician being interviewed. Which leads me to wonder why the ever present protestors shout and wave flags from Parliament Square Gardens when they could capture their audience more directly in Victoria Tower Gardens !!!!

And when you amble through these gardens make sure not to miss the Buxton Memorial Fountain that remembers the emancipation of slaves in the British Empire, then stroll over to the Thames and take a good look at Lambeth Bridge on your right and Westminster Bridge of your left. Lambeth is coloured red for the House of Lords and Westminster is coloured green for the House of Commons. Next time you watch Boris waffling away in the Commons look at the colour of the seats the MPs line up on. And when Dame Home Counties is waving her papers in the Lords note the colour of their seats.

Has it all come into place?
